teen grief group - ages 12-15

In the wake of recent loss in our community, this gathering offers students a safe, compassionate space to come together, connect, and explore the many feelings that can accompany grief. Whether a child is navigating the loss of someone close to them or has been impacted by loss in their wider community, all are welcome. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and no expectation to share more than feels comfortable. Our hope is to create a space where every feeling is welcome, every experience is honored, and no one has to navigate alone.

Included in this 2 hour, FREE community event will be the following:

  • Art activity using colors, symbols, or designs to express emotions

  • Time for personal reflection, and opportunities to connect with others

  • Guided nervous system reset to help students feel supported and grounded

  • Food and drinks for students will be served

  • A small keepsake as a reminder of their time together

Karyn O’Leary, LCSW, has over 15 years of clinical experience supporting children, adolescents, mothers, and families as they navigate trauma, grief, loss, and life’s many challenges. Having experienced the profound impact of loss in her own life, Karyn feels a deep calling to support young adolescents as they navigate grief, find connection, and and learn the tools they need to heal. As a mother of two daughters in the Leesburg school system, she feels deeply connected to this community. Her passion is helping children recognize their inner strength, heal from difficult experiences, and grow into their most empowered selves

Michelle Roman is a local mother of two Loudoun County elementary school students who is passionate about helping children develop tools for navigating big emotions and challenging experiences. She specializes in nervous-system regulation through breathwork and simple mindfulness techniques that can help children feel more grounded, calm, and connected to themselves. Michelle is honored to share these practical tools with children as they learn to process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions in a safe and supportive environment.
